An upstander legal observer is usually a U.S. citizen who documents federal law enforcement to provide evidence if there are violations of Constitutional protections. Observers take photos and video, but step back if law enforcement asks to make a perimeter. Observers try to document the names and phone numbers of people detained, and any close relations to contact who the detainee wants us to call for them.
